World Food Day

Join us in raising awareness about the plight of childhood hunger, and stocking the shelves of our partner schools with Jars of Hope for hungry learners. You can get involved this World Food Day in 4 ways:

VOLUNTEER – join us at our offices for a day of packing Jars of Hope. Each jar makes a hearty meal for a family of 4. Our partner schools appreciate having these jars to be able to send home with learners who do not have food in the house. While we feed them at school, many of the children go home to empty cupboards. With your help we can make sure they can put something on the table.

DONATE – collect non-perishable food items and bring them to our offices. These will be used to make up food parcels for families in need. We need items like maize meal, rice, tinned meat and fish, tinned veggies, peanut butter, jam, tea, sugar, cooking oil, as well as treats like biscuits and juice.

SHARE – follow our social media accounts in October and share our posts to raise awareness about childhood hunger in South Africa, and how you can make a difference to a child.

GIVE – choose to become a hunger hero by setting up a monthly donation to support our work. Africa Food for Thought is able to promise our children food security because of our committed partners.

Shop for a Child with Party in a Box

Thank you for bringing Christmas Joy to your AFFT Children. We know that this year has been difficult for all of us and that the Christmas Party being cancelled was a real blow to the children. We hope that the “Party in a Box” will bring them some joy this year

We need your help to buy a present for one specific child, or more! Once you have let us know how many children you would like to shop for, as well as any preferences around gender or age, we will send you their wish lists.

Please note that you are the only person receiving these wish lists! If, for any reason, you are not able to get a gift, please ensure you let us know as soon as possible. Otherwise that child will not receive a present this year!

Once you have the wish list, it’s time to go shopping! We would like you to choose ONE good quality item, inspired by the child’s list. You should spend between R100 and R200 on this gift.

Please tape the wish list to your gift. You’ll notice that it was designed to look like a gift tag. This will help us make sure that the gift ends up with the right child! Feel free to write a Christmas message on the back to the child you are buying for.

If you wish to wrap your gift, please use a gift bag rather than wrapping paper. Alternately we can wrap the gift for you.

Please ensure that your gift has been delivered to the AFFT office by the 16th of November.

Isn’t it amazing that something as simple as baking biscuits can change lives?

By partnering with Africa Food for Thought that is exactly what you will be doing. The biscuits you donate will be sold to bring in much needed funds so that we can go on providing food to the thousands of children supported by our programmes.

Please provide 6 dozen (or more!) cookies of the same variety and deliver them to our offices on the 9th of November. The cookies should be packaged in bags or in containers that are either clearly marked with your name and contact number, or that you are happy to donate – don’t bring us your best Tupperware please!

We will then package and distribute your cookies to our supporters across Johannesburg, so please make sure that you are using good hygiene and a great recipe while you are baking!
